There comes a time in every believer’s life when prayer feels like a whisper into the void. You kneel, you cry, you plead and yet, it’s just dead silence. You fast, you worship, you wait and and wait...and...wait and still, nothing seems to shift.
Heaven feels quiet. Your words seem to hang in the air and fall back down unanswered. And in that silence, something painful begins to stir.
Doubt creeps in like a shadow at dusk.
You begin to wonder: Is God listening? Did I do something wrong? Why does breakthrough feel so far away?
You replay your prayers, your fasting, your faithfulness and still, the heavens remain closed. If that’s where you are right now, you are not alone.
This isn’t just your story. It’s the story of countless Christians who love God deeply but feel spiritually stuck. It’s the quiet ache of those who keep showing up before the throne, even when they can no longer feel His presence.
It’s the tear-stained prayers whispered in the dark.
It’s the worship sung through trembling lips.
It’s the faith that refuses to give up, even when the fire burns low.
This message is for you, the weary soul, the faithful heart, the one who’s tired of praying but still holding on. Let’s journey together into the heart of prayer, and discover why it sometimes feels powerless, and how to reignite its fire.
The Cry of the Weary Soul
A friend once told me she was tired of praying.
She said, “I’ve prayed for so long, yet nothing changes. Maybe I’m just not one of God’s favourites.”
Her words were heavy. Not just because of the pain behind them, but because they echoed a sentiment many believers carry silently. The feeling of being unheard. Unseen. Forgotten.
I could see it in her eyes, faith and fatigue fighting for space in the same soul.
I looked at her and asked gently, “Have you tried fasting?”
She sighed. “I fast a lot. I’m done with it. It doesn’t work either.”
There was exhaustion in her tone, the kind that comes when your hope has been stretched too thin.
Then I said, “Maybe you’re not praying enough.”
Confused, she asked, “What do you mean? I just told you, I pray and fast all the time!”
So I asked, “How long do you pray? And how do you pray? Have you ever prayed for about ten minutes or more non-stop? When you fast, how long do you actually spend in prayer and reading the Bible? Yes, you can say you are fasting from 6am-12pm or even 6pm but how long do you actually spend in prayer during the fasting period?
You want to move the hand of God, how do you expect to do that?”
Her silence said everything.
And maybe yours does too.
